The game of tennis begins

April 20, 2010

Yesterday began the beginning of the proverbial hitting the balls into the other guy’s court.  And when they come back to you, ya gotta hit it right back.

Yesterday I emailed the city clerk’s office of Corry, Pennsylvania who handled my Grandfather and Grandmother’s marriage.  I had requested information on what they need to produce a certified copy of the wedding certificate.  (Ball into their court).  And yesterday the ball came back to me with, “We don’t do that here.  Contact the county.”  (Ball bounced once on my side).  Ok, that makes sense.  So this morning I called the county and asked the same thing.  (A good return of the ball).  The woman told me, “Hmmm.  Oh, boy!” and asked me if my marriage certificate had a gold foil on it.  Not knowing what that had to do with anything, I told her, “Yes it does.”  And neither of us said anything else about it.

So now I need to mail her a request for the gold-foiled (certified by their office) copy of my grandparent’s certificate.  And $10.  So it’s going in the mail tomorrow, along with a copy of what I need, since I already have an unofficial copy of the certificate.  And I see it coming…  I was told that once I get it in the mail, I need to mail it right back out to the State of Pennsylvania to get it apostilled (big-time certified) (the version I need for my application).

And speaking of the application… No, I mean the application to be able to send in my application…

After getting another blank appointment application in my emailbox yesterday, I decided to try a different route… and today faxed a completed form to the Italian Consulate.  So no email back.  No phone call yet.  Hopefully I’ll get at least get something in the mail stating that I have an appointment to turn in the citizenship application.

Ya know, I’m starting to feel like 9 months will just be about right to get these 7 forms and an appointment…
